Presidential Scholar Named Parker High School Student
Samuel C. Schendel, Parker High School Senior, was among the
141 students from across the country named as a 2013-2014 U.S. Presidential
Scholar and joins its 50th class. This is one of the Nation’s highest
honors for high school students. Recipients represent excellence in education
and exhibit high potential and promise of greatness among young people.
This is not a scholarship that students can apply for; they
must be invited to apply. Students must score exceptionally well on either the
SAT or the ACT to be invited to apply.
The Chief State School Officer may also nominate the student. The student must also have graduated or will
receive a diploma between January and August of the current program year.

Presidential Scholar recipients receive an all expense paid
trip to Washington, D.C. in June. During the time in Washington, Scholars have
access to several national and international individuals, participate in
community service, and attend recitals and receptions held in their honor. The
trip is finalized with an award ceremony on June 22, sponsored by the White
House, where they will receive their U.S. Presidential Scholars’ medallion.
Part of the program is for students to identify a teacher
who was most influential in their education. Andrea Behn was chosen as Samuel’s
most influential teacher.
The U.S. Presidential Scholars’ program is a federal program
that has been in existence for over 48 years.
Over 6,000 individuals have been honored.
Congratulations, to Samuel on this great accomplishment in
his “Journey To Excellence”
